Effects of Adhesive Types and Structural Configurations on Shear Performance of Laminated Board from Two Gigantochloa Bamboos

Semantan (Gigantochloa scortechinii) and beting levis) bamboo are the two Malaysian that suitable to be converted into laminated boards. One of main criteria for board is its good bondability, which determined by shear performance. The performance influenced several factors such as species used, adhesive types lamination configurations. Therefore, in this study, boards were produced using Beting bonded with phenol–resorcinol–formaldehyde (PRF) polyurethane (PUR) adhesives. Different configurations (lay-up patterns strip arrangements) used during consolidation strips arranged three different arrangements, namely vertical, horizontal mixed, then assembled a three-layered structure lay-up patterns, perpendicular parallel. Shear performances, strength, failure delamination boards, evaluated. results revealed type pattern most influential on PRF-bonded outperformed PUR-bonded terms strength but PUR bonding had better bond durability indicated low delamination.
